Bluestone Lake
West Virginia's largest lake, 1,970-acre Bluestone Lake is among West Virginia's most popular boating destinations. However, its undeveloped shorelines, protected as state wildlife-management area, are filled with deer, squirrel, raccoon, turkey, fox and bobcat. Float fishing for striped bass, panfish, musky, catfish, and largemouth and small-mouth bass is excellent.

Bluestone National Scenic River
The stony gorge of the Bluestone River protects a wonderland of scenic cliffs and rock formations that overlook this free-flowing stream. Anglers and hikers use a trail between Pipestem State Park to Bluestone State Park to access the river. Kayakers challenge the Bluestone in spring, but waters ebb to a trickle by mid-summer.

Bluestone State Park
More than 2,000 acres of forested mountain are preserved at Bluestone State Park, on the Bluestone River adjacent to Bluestone Lake. Fishing and canoeing are naturally important facets of recreation on the lake, but the park affords plenty of hiking trails and developed cabins and camping areas as well as a swimming pool.

Pipestem State Park
Pipestem's trails, lodges, cabins, and golf courses attract thousands of visitors through all seasons. An aerial tram, horseback rides, and stunning views of the Bluestone Canyon and surrounding tablelands are also among the park's popular attractions. Restaurants, an outdoor pool, and a fishing lake make this one of West Virginia's best vacation destination parks.

New River Gorge National River
One of the world's oldest rivers, the New River wears a wide valley past the Pipestem area before entering its world-famous New River Gorge below Bluestone Lake. Hiking, biking, float fishing, and whitewater rafting are extremely popular on the New River. The Sandstone Falls on New River is among the most spectacular national areas in West Virginia.

Sandstone Falls
The New River plunges 25 feet over scenic Sandstone Falls in the New River Gorge National River. The National Park Service provides trails and boardwalks around the falls and nearby islands. This stunning natural area is a must-see for Pipestem area visitors.

Winterplace Ski Resort
Just off Interstate 77, Winterplace ski resort provides some of the best downhill skiing in the South. Descending Flat Top Mountain from the highest peak in the Pipestem region, Winterplace trails and sledding and tubing and snowboarding parks keeps the fun going through winter.
